They made us write a "turning points" essay in high school about an event that sort of changed the trajectory of our lives. Kingston wouldn't have taken that creative writing class, but this doctor's message for him is a major turning point in his life.

I did take that creative writing class. My turning point would not occur until about a year and a half after graduating when I decided to drop out of university.
